Community Design Workshop - 3 October - Expressions of interest have closed

In the Master Plan, we want help from the community to develop landscape design concepts for your village. Council is facilitating a community design strategies workshop on the 3rd of October.

We are looking for a small group of enthusiastic volunteers from the Crescent Head community to participate in a day long activity. The group will be working with a professional design team of landscape architect Dan Plummer and artist Belinda Smith to come up with innovative, community-driven design approach.

The process will be a fun, intensive, one-day design workshop (about 6-7 hours) to generate ideas and develop design guidance for the town centre and foreshore challenges identified in the master plan.

Given the nature of the activity, places will be limited. We will look for representatives from a broad range of ages, gender, community groups, business and recreational interests to allow a good variety of views to be put forward on the and so the group is of a size that enables focused and workable outcomes

The draft plans, built on the community-driven design guidance, will be made available to the community for feedback and further refinement in March 2020. Public exhibition of the final design and implementation plan is anticipated April-May 2020.

Background

Between December 2016 and August 2017, the Crescent Head community was involved in an extensive consultation program in order to assist in the development of the Crescent Head Area Master Plan.

Issues of public infrastructure, housing availability and protection of the natural environment all emerged as significant to the future of Crescent Head.

The level of community input in workshops, surveys and online discussions was vital in developing the Master Plan.

The Master Plan outlines four key objectives comprising:

  • guiding new and upgraded public facilities
  • looking at how public land should be managed
  • considering planning issues for the community
  • supporting community priorities for improvement works around the village and foreshore.

Feedback from residents, investors and visitors making up the Crescent Head community identified short, medium and long term priorities such as improved open spaces and facilities; better parking and traffic management particularly in peak seasons; management of Muddy Arm and Killick Creek; investigation of affordable housing and revitalisation of the village streetscape.
