Council's Community Catch-Up series continued in September 2018 with over 30 residents of Gladstone and Smithtown joining Councillors for the workshop.

Discussing what participants love about the villages and their hopes for the future, there was a really positive community spirit and interest in working together.

That conversation and developing concrete ideas will continue in coming moths through the engagement to finalise a community plan. This page is the start of that ongoing conversation and a platform to build on.

  • The Summary of the Community Catch-up feedback can be found in the document library. Take a look at the report and have your say in the discussion forum.
  • Complete the quick poll and share your vision
  • Updates and actions will be posted in the Latest News tab below

Feedback will be open till Monday 3 December November, 2018. An updated Gladstone / Smithtown Community Plan will then be circulated throughout the community for your comments.

    My Community Project

One of the themes to come out of our Community Catch-up in Gladstone and Smithtown, was how Council and locals could work together to achieve more for your community. We know you would like to see improvements to your basketball court and we’d like to help you achieve that.

Grants between $20,000 and $200,000 are available and your idea could receive funding through the NSW Government's My Community Project. These projects require a sponsor which is where KSC may be able to help.

Now is the time to apply. You can find out more at https://www.nsw.gov.au/improving-nsw/projects-and-initiatives/my-community-project/ and you can read the guidelines here.

If you are interested, please email Jade Delaney - jade.delaney@kempsey.nsw.gov.au - as soon as possible to discuss the next steps.

This is an exciting opportunity for us to work together and we hope to hear from you soon.

Applications close May 15 so don't delay!

    Community Update

There has been some great progress in the Gladstone and Smithtown villages!

Kempsey Shire Council is pleased to announce the fantastic new Memorial Park playground in Gladstone is now complete! We’ve received some great feedback and it is wonderful to see the local kids (and adults) getting so much enjoyment from this new facility.

The boardwalk extension to the footpath along the river is now also finished and provides a great, accessible addition to enjoy this magnificent part of the Macleay river.

Construction has commenced on the new amenities block which will provide a much needed upgrade to accessible cubicles, hand-basins and a baby change station. The new amenities have been designed to reflect the heritage of the local area and is expected to be completed by July. There may be some minor disruptions to parking but the existing amenity block will remain open until the new one is complete. Media release
