Refurbishment Works Underway

Collating feedback from the community and Library members along with specialist advice from Library design consultants, interior designers and speciality Library furniture suppliers, the plans for the Kempsey branch refurbishment have been finalised.

The forced lockdown of Kempsey Library due to Covid19 restrictions created the chance to finalise the designs and prepare the site for work to get underway. The project is being delivered by Council’s Commercial Business section, using local building contractors.

Excess office space will be converted to a new children’s area that flows to an outdoor reading room, transforming the overgrown courtyard. The entrance to the Library will be moved slightly to turn the old foyer into private study pods and allow for construction of two bookable community meeting rooms that can be accessed after hours, directly responding to community desires. New paths, landscaping and community seating will create a more accessible and inviting entrance to the facility.

The renovation is due to be completed by January 2022. Visit Council’s Major Project page to stay up to date on how the Library is operating throughout the renovation.
