What is a Local Housing Strategy?
The Local Housing Strategy states Council’s vision for providing housing within the Shire. It includes how and where housing will be provided in local areas and will identify areas of cultural, environmental, heritage or local character significance.
How will the Local Housing Strategy be used?
The Local Housing Strategy will help inform the future Local Growth Management Strategy (LGMS).
What is a Local Growth Management Strategy?
The LGMS is the key strategic land use planning document by which the Council establishes how and where projected population and employment growth are to be accommodated over the next twenty (20) years. The LGMS will consider the following:
Council is currently preparing background reports to inform the future LGMS. The background reports include:
These background reports and the future draft LGMS will be open for community and stakeholder feedback throughout 2022. Although the background reports state recommendations, the community feedback will assist Council in determining what recommendations are in the final LGMS.
What is the expected population growth of Kempsey Shire?
The population of Kempsey Shire is expected to grow by 5,421 (to 35,350) people between 2021-2041. This equates to an additional 2,790 dwellings in the Shire. The Local Housing Strategy will determine in which localities these additional dwellings will be located.
How will my feedback be considered?
At the conclusion of the feedback period all feedback will be thoroughly considered and assist in informing a final draft of the Local Housing Strategy. The final draft will then be reported to, and considered by, Council for finalization.
