Proposed charges for Council electric vehicle charging stations
Consultation has concluded.
What do you think of the fees that will be charged to those using electric vehicle charging stations?
Change to Fees and Charges
At the most recent Council meeting on Tuesday 16 July, a new fee for the use of EV car chargers within the Shire was considered. Discussion included the price of EV charging in adjacent Councils, the cost of providing EV chargers, and who is best placed to provide EV charging.
Since the EV charger has been installed at Back Creek, South West Rocks, it has been free of charge. Council now wishes to apply a fee for the use of this (and any future) chargers.
It is mandatory to have any changes to our Fees and Charges on public exhibition for a period of 28 days.
The new fee
Under the proposal, users will be charged at a rate of $0.25/kWh which works out on average to cost about $15 to charge a 60kWh battery from empty to full.
These proposed fees are comparable to the Australian average for publicly available EV charging stations.
The proposed charges will help cover the energy costs, as well as the costs of the online charging and monitoring platform which runs the EV chargers.
Currently, Council has two EV chargers - one at the Slim Dusty Centre and the other near the amenities at Back Creek, South West Rocks.
