In response to community feedback about local recreation reserves Council has reviewed the current Alcohol Prohibited Areas. As a result, we are proposing the introduction of some new proposed Alcohol Prohibited Areas and adjusting the hours of the existing areas.

Alcohol Prohibited Areas and Alcohol-free Zones are established under the Local Government Act 1993. This Act allows these areas to be monitored and gives police the authority to confiscate and tip out alcohol within designated zones. It also provides limits around the broader powers to move people on when their behaviour causes concern, particularly when linked to alcohol consumption.

Proposed new areas and amendments:

  • Gladstone Sports Fields – Alcohol always prohibited.

  • Bellbrook Park – Alcohol always prohibited.

  • Mattys Flat Reserve & Boat Ramp, South West Rocks Alcohol prohibited between 8:00pm and 11:00am.

  • Back Creek Reserve, South West Rocks – Alcohol prohibited between 8:00pm and 11:00am.

  • Back Creek (Gordon Young Drive) Boat Ramp, South West Rocks - Alcohol prohibited between 8:00pm and 11:00am.

  • All current alcohol prohibited areas with restrictions from 7:00pm to 11:00am are proposed to be adjusted to 8:00pm to 11:00am. This one-hour change ensures consistency, easing confusion around hours of operation.

Ultimately, the goal of these areas is to support safe, accessible, family-friendly spaces, and align with other local government areas in the region.
