Marrungbu!

We had an amazing response from the community on our Reconciliation Action Plan.

Council's first Reconciliation Action Plan

At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Aboriginal peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.

Council has developed a Reconciliation Action Plan which will clearly set out the steps Council will take to prepare the organisation for reconciliation initiatives. The plan was Adopted at the May 2022 Council Meeting.

The plan is based on the structure designed by Reconciliation Australia. It is the first step in a four plan process and has been developed by staff, in consultation with key local stakeholders, as a key part of the organisation's journey to unite the shire.

What did we hear?

Over the past 10 months we heard from over 90 community members, service providers and Elders.

The majority of community (over 60%) said they support Councils Reconciliation Action Plan.

Over 70% of community supported the need to foster stronger relationships between Council and the Aboriginal Community.

We also heard lots of great feedback that we will incorporate into the relevant strategies and future Reconcilaition Action Plans.
