Should we rename the Kemp Street Sports Complex?

We are considering renaming the Kemp Street Sport Complex to Terry Giddy Sports Fields.

Background

In June 2024 Mayor Leo Hauville asked to permanently honour a late Kempsey local paralympic athlete, Mr Terrence "Terry" Giddy OAM. For more information on honouring Terry Giddy and the purpose of renaming the Kemp Street Sports Complex please read the attached document in the side panel of this page.

Objectives

At the August meeting, Council proposed renaming Kemp Street Sport Complex to Terry Giddy Sports Fields and to place the suggestion on Public Exhibition. If there is community support for the proposal, it will be lodged with the Geographical Names Board.

Considerations

When renaming the field, you may notice that the OAM title will be removed, the name will be Terry Giddy Sports Fields this is to ensure we comply with the policies of the Guidelines for the Geographical Names Board.
