Based on community feedback and the need to create standard signage for the Park, we are looking into the naming of the park.

It has been noted that the park is inconsistently named, with some references to its name as Services Club Park rather than Service Clubs Park.

The Geographical Names Register held by the Geographical Names Board, which records the official name of places/localities and features such as schools, airports, islands, rivers, reserves and parks, has no entry for either name in the Kempsey Shire. In the 1954 Gazette Notice whereby Council compulsory acquired a block of land that makes up the park there no mention of a name for the park.

It is generally accepted that the park goes by the name Service Clubs Park to honour the work of the members of the various service clubs (Apex, Lions, Rotary etc) that cleared the land following the floods of 1949-1950. There are however several examples of Services Clubs around the state.

The park has been regularly named Service Clubs Park in publications and it is proposed to confirm this name.

Please have your say on the name of this important park and share your stories of its history so that Council may formally recognise the park’s name as Service Clubs Park.
