What way should we go on signs?

What have we heard from community?

In early 2022, Council engaged with the community on its proposed Signage Strategy, fresh Signage Policy and supporting documents.

We heard from more than 60 community members, who told us their top concerns and highlighted opportunities for improvements.

The following were identified as the most important priorities by the community:

  • Clear directional street signage
  • Places of interest and facilities, such as dog-friendly areas
  • Dual naming of community infrastructure in English and Indigenous language.

What way should we go on visitor and road signage?

In our first two rounds of engagement 100% of respondents said our current signage for tourism and businesses across the shire was NOT sufficient.

What's in the Strategy?

Council has developed a Signage Strategy that provides a range of short, medium and long term actions.

The Strategy includes signage at shire boundaries, town entry points, parks and reserves, and visitor information signage. The Strategy also identifies signage that needs to be replaced.

These are designed to achieve Council’s objectives to improve signage services and respond to key community concerns raised in the first two rounds of engagement.

Fresh Policy & Supporting Documents

In developing the new strategy, Council recognised the need for a new Signage Policy, supporting Guideline and Style Guide.

These documents are now on exhibition for you to have your say. These have been designed to provide guidance on how to plan and obtain approvals for, design and implement signs.

Do you agree with the Signage Strategy, policy and supporting documentation?
