Consultation has concluded

Kempsey Shire Council is seeking to understand the community’s needs in relation to Alcohol Free Zones, and specifically the suitability of the locations the zones cover.

We are seeking feedback until 4pm Monday 30th October through the short survey below.

Council supports a comprehensive approach in tackling alcohol-related crime and anti-social behavior that includes Alcohol-free Zones (AFZ) and Alcohol Prohibited Areas (APA).

Having identified locations assists in creating a safer environment for our residents, businesses and visitors.

AFZ’s and APA’s are tools that assist NSW Police to address alcohol related crime and antisocial behavior in public spaces. These zones allow NSW Police to confiscate, ‘tip out’ alcohol and apply a fine for obstruction, in circumstances where a person does not cooperate with a request by the Police.

An AFZ may be established for a maximum period of four (4) years, after which a re-establishment process must be carried out.

Council has been establishing and renewing AFZs and APAs in various areas throughout the LGA since 1993, in response to requests from NSW Police, Kempsey Local Aboriginal Land Council, local chambers of commerce/local businesses, residents and resident groups.

Council is seeking feedback on the proposal to:

- re-establish the existing AFZ's (with inclusion of additional extent of Forth Street between Clyde Street and the riverbank)

- Establish West Kempsey Pump Track as an Alcohol Prohibited Area (24hr a day)
