How should we manage our coastal catchments?

Will these actions improve our coastal waterways?

Coastal Management Plans (CMPs) provide sustainable plans for our coastal areas. They include strategies for the use of resources and actions to preserve our natural environment. Key issues and hazards, such as community needs, a changing climate and developmental risks, are evaluated.

What has happened?

The Coastal Management Plan project is being carried out in five stages:

Stage One was completed in 2018 and included scoping studies of the Macleay River, Killick Creek, Korogoro Creek and Saltwater Lagoon and Creek.

Stage Two was completed in 2021 and included the development of Estuary Entrance Management Plans for Korogoro Creek, Killick Creek, Saltwater Creek and Back Creek.

Where are we up to?

Stage Three is the evaluation of the draft management actions. The actions set out what Council and key stakeholders will do over the next 10 years to improve our estuaries, rivers and open coastline.

Once the community has helped refine the proposed actions, the completed Draft Coastal Management Plan will be placed on public exhibition for a final review.
