Why is Council conducting a community survey?
Kempsey Shire Council conducts market research every two years to understand the community’s overall satisfaction with Council, which is a key performance indicator reported to Councillors and the community.
The community research also aims to understand the importance the community places on key service areas and the level of satisfaction with how Council delivers those services. This information is used to inform Council’s operational plans, communications, and community engagement.

The research will ask the community about the following:
Who is conducting the research?
Micromex, a specialist market research company, is conducting the research on behalf of Kempsey Shire Council.
How are participants selected?
The phone survey is a representative sample of the Kempsey Local Government Area to ensure we obtain feedback from people across the geographical footprint and all age groups (18+ years). Phone numbers (landline and mobile) are randomly selected from the electronic white pages.
The online survey allows our community to self-select to be part of the research and this will be shared on Council’s Your Say Macleay website from Monday 6 March 2023.
When will the research occur?
The phone survey will be conducted from Monday 27 February to Friday 3 March 2023.
An online survey will be available on Your Say Macleay from Monday 6 March to Sunday 19 March 2023.
What happens with the information I provide?
All responses to the survey are confidential. Micromex adheres to the Code of Professional Behaviour of the Market and Social Research Society of Australia (AMSRS) and the Australian Privacy Principles that govern the way organisations collect, use, protect and disclose personal information.
The answers provided by community members are consolidated by Micromex into a report provided to Council.
Will the community see the survey results?
A summary of the results will be shared with the community on Council’s Your Say Macleay website in May 2023.
Can I fill out a paper survey?
There will be no surveys available in paper format. It is online only. If anyone needs access to the online survey, computers are available in the Kempsey Shire Libraries branches.
