Why does the walkway go in front of the Spirit Boat Bench?

The walkway is planned to be located in front of the Spirit Boat Bench to allow for the future construction of the extension around the Surf Club. Based on community feedback, the walkway has been moved away from the bench so as to reduce visual impact. Observation on site shows that people are already using the grass to walk in front of the bench, and it can be a slippery surface.

Will this include a safe cross walk to get to the playground from the car parks?

Unfortunately the funding is for the walkway along the point only. The Masterplan review will explore the site as a whole in relation to parking, pathways, facilities and amenities. Community are invited to be involved in the Masterplan discussions - go to the Masterplan Review page for information on how to get involved

Where are the plans for the walkway?

You can view the final plans HERE . Please note that the final plans do not vary significantly from what was presented at the December workshop which you can locate through this link Presentation - December Workshop plans

Note that there are some amendments based on community feedback (eg: the pathway will not extend the length of the beach. Rather it will stop where the existing access ramp is to Horseshoe Bay. Final details are being created to develop an improved and compliant access ramp to the beach at this location).

    What will happen next?

You can find out more information about the construction timeframes, impacts during construction and operating hours by going HERE

Will the walkway be constructed similar to Point Briner?

No. The draft plan is to have mainly ground level construction along the main headland. There are concept ideas for some lookout points to manage existing erosion issues and preserve the area.

If the creek connection is agreed to, a boardwalk style will be required to connect around the side of surf club, however the design will not be the same as Point Briner.

Why is the walkway being developed before the Masterplan is reviewed?

Council has received $357,000 funding from Stronger Community Country Communities (Round 1) funding to construct a new walkway at the Horseshoe Bay reserve. Funding is required to be acquitted by June 2019 in order to comply with funding requirements.

The Masterplan is now under review and you can find out more here
