WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Kempsey Shire Council is working on reinvigorating and reimagining what our shire's library spaces and services will look like in the future.

WHY ARE WE DOING IT?

Council is seeking to ensure that our libraries of the future will be equipped to fulfil their mission given technological, cultural and societal changes.

Kempsey Shire Library's mission is to strengthen the community by providing the space and services to bring people together from a diverse range of backgrounds to meet and network. The library will assist in building social capital by proactively promoting social and cultural development within the community. The library services are critical in fostering the council’s objectives in its Community Strategic Plan by providing safe and sociable spaces for the community. The delivery of programs and resources encourages health and wellbeing and offers educational support to residents.

At present, the mission is achieved by providing library services to the people of the Macleay Valley and beyond, through its main branch in West Kempsey and three other sub-branches located at South West Rocks, Stuarts Point and Hat Head as well as the Mobile Library service. But we need to ensure this is the model for the future.

HOW CAN YOU HAVE YOUR SAY?

We want you to think outside the box and provide us with ideas and suggestions for improvements not only to our library spaces but also the very services that are provided.

Right now you can read about and have your say on three individual projects:

Kempsey Library Branch upgrade

South West Rocks Library and Community Hub

Our Library's 5-Year Strategic Plan

These projects have been developed as outcomes from the 'Your Future Places and Spaces' Community Infrastructure Strategic Plan adopted on 15 Sept 2020.

The first of the projects' engagement closes on 15/1/21.
