Do you love the Crescent Head Foreshore and Village Centre?

Like all living, vibrant communities Crescent Head is a permanent work in progress and work is underway to upgrade the key public spaces of the foreshore and village centre.

The Crescent Head Village and Foreshore Upgrade programs were both identified in the Crescent Head Master Plan that was adopted by Council in 2017. They are both outlined in detail in the Crescent Head Public Domain Plan. The Master Plan was subject to extensive public engagement and the two projects were identified by the community as priorities.

Background

The Public Domain Plan was adopted by Council in October 2020 and is a significant part of the overall planning for Crescent Head.

The village upgrade projects have commenced, including the work recently completed on Rankine St.

In July 2021 Council resolved to undertake renewed community engagement and design development for the foreshore area and present a further report in 24 months. Staff commenced a two-year engagement and design project to better understand and balance community needs for car parking and green space.

What has happened so far?

In August 2021 Council endorsed a seven stage approach to engage the community, finalise a design brief and prepare landscape designs for this critical area.

The first stage of the revised project approach was to conduct an independent audit to determine the land available for the foreshore design project. The audit report was presented to Council in March 2022.

This structured process evaluated and compared all relevant Council reports, community engagement feedback, external reports, stakeholder interviews and legislation.

What area is included in the foreshore design project?

Based on the audit report Council determined the boundaries of the area to be considered in the foreshore upgrade:

  • Western limit: Just past the footbridge where the path narrows along Killick Creek.
  • Southern limit: Holiday Park boundaries (already existing)
  • Eastern limit: Where the path narrows and meets the Golf Course boundary.

What happens next?

1. Council will conduct a formal request for quote process and select independent consultants with expertise in Public Domain design and community engagement.

2. The consultants will work with Council to develop and facilitate community engagement opportunities.

3. All draft designs will be placed on public exhibition before being presented to Council for decision making.
